Journey to Teaching and Goals

When I was little, I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up.  When I was in high school, I wanted to be an accountant because I was taking accounting classes that I did well in.  I soon realized that I would be very bored being an accountant for the rest of my life.  In high school I also worked in the on-campus preschool.  Working in the preschool is what persuaded me to want to teach.  I loved teaching the children new things and seeing their reactions when they were learning something new.  Although I do love working with children, it is not the main reason I want to teach.  I like teaching to children, not just being around them.  I love the ah-ha reaction students have when they finally grasp a difficult concept.  One of the best experiences I have in working with children was teaching a child in the preschool in high school how to tie his shoes.  We worked on it every day for so long, until one day he tied his shoes all by himself.  He was so excited and so grateful.  It was such a good feeling to know that I taught a child something new.  My favorite teacher was in high school.  She was the teacher in the preschool.  She taught the preschoolers while also teaching the high school students working in the preschool.  Her job was very hectic, but she always stayed positive and kept order in the classroom.  She encouraged me to pursue a career in teaching.
I am not sure what grade or where I want to teach.  I am thinking about 3-5 grades or middle school.  I think I have many talents and strengths that I can bring into my future classroom.  I am very persistent and I do not like to give up on things or people.  I am patient and understanding.  I also hope to build relationships with my students.  I want my students to be able to come to me without feeling scared or ashamed.
